Janet Kuypers performed a set of poems, one piece of prose, and 2 songs with commentary in the July 11 2010 feature at Beach Poets (hosted by Cathleen Schandelmeier, with music host Peter C. Bartels, at Loyola beach, Greenleaf and the lake, just east of Sheridan Road and 4 blocks north of the Loyola el stop, near Heartland Cafe). Because July 11th 2010 is the 12 year anniversary of the date she was almost killed in a car accident, Kuypers opted to read and perform work relating to both death (from that accident) and a 'rebirth' after she survived. Without a microphone, she read not only poetry written both before and after the accident, but also interjected journal-style commentary about the accident and recovery. Two original songs on the beach with guitarist John Yotko started and ended this 20+ minute live feature.

She sang the songs "What We Need In Life" and "My Love For You Will Stay the Same" (an original song by the Chicago acoustic alternative band Mom's Favorite Vase, with Janet Kuypers as the singer and Warren Peterson as the guitarist, where Janet Kuypers wrote the words and pieced Warren Peterson's music for this song) with John Yotko playing guitar (as they work together under the name "The Second Axing"). She also read the poems "7 and 7, plus 18" (part), "Motions on the Planet", "How Do I Explain In" (part), "Left with a Hole", "Are They Invincible" , portions of the prose piece "King of the Universe", the poems "Everyone Else Does It", "Changing Garments", and "Fantastic Car Crash". The majority of these writings were interspersed with commentary talking about the near fatal car accident on July 11 1998, along with the recovery and the effects on such an accident are for the rest of a personĂ¢s life.
